Audience For Whom or What? (Chapter 2)

Can you guess what this audience is watching? The answer is after the jump.

Answer: spectators at a wrestling match between Gorgeous George and another wrestler, 1949.

I have to admit that I know very little about the history of professional wrestling, but I don't typically think of the audience--either today or in the 1940s--as being this diverse in terms of age and gender. Clearly wrestling was an appropriate entertainment for dates, parents, and families in the 1940s.

This photo, by the way, was taken by Stanley Kubrick (yes, that Stanley Kubrick) for LOOK Magazine.

And in case you are curious, here are some subsequent shots of what they were looking at: Gorgeous George.
